In Russia, there are extremely few areas where the cultural and natural heritage would be preserved most fully and multifaceted. One of such territories is the Kenozersky National Park, one of the last islands of the age-old Russian way of life, culture, traditions, which has preserved the wealth and purity of its inner world, turned to its origins. And it is no coincidence that the idea of creating a national park in the Kenozero region, advanced as early as the 1960s by specialists - historians, geographers, art historians, architects, biologists, foresters, forest managers, thanks to the active support of the public, numerous admirers of culture and nature of the Kenozerye, has found its embodiment.
The park houses more than 200 lakes, the picturesque shores and the outlines of which, in combination with the adjacent hilly-ridge landscapes, clearly demonstrate the ice age in the geological history of the north of the East European Plain. Of all the many lakes, they are quite clearly distinguished, first of all, by their size, recreational and historical value, two lakes - Kenozero and Lekshmozero. Kenozerye - a huge museum of Russian wooden architecture in the open air and in a natural landscape, numbering up to 60 places of worship. The region of Kenozerye is distinguished by the preservation and concentration of cultural monuments, the richness of ethnographic material, and the ecological attitude to the natural environment, embedded in the culture and customs of the local population.
